AOV Build Guide: Wiro, Hero With Outstanding Crowd Control and Hybrid Damage

AOV Build Guide: Wiro, Hero With Outstanding Crowd Control and Hybrid Damage

Wiro is a hero in AOV that is designated as tank/warrior. This makes him a hero that can deal a good amount of damage while also having a great defensive stats, allowing him to fight as a DS (Dark Slayer) laner. With the more recent releases of DS laner heroes, Wiro started to be forgotten as his stats and skills won't match those of the latest heroes.

Starting from The Dark Lord update that went live in October-November 2019, Wiro had received a buff in his first skill, allowing him to hold on to it for longer time. However, he starts to gain attention again since Carano update in January 21, 2020. In this update, his second and ultimate skills got updated. His second skill will give a temporary boost to his attack speed if it hits enemy and Wiro is immune to any kinds of crowd control skills while casting his ultimate at a cost of slower movement while doing so.

Now that Wiro can fight the other DS laner, and the addition of rune system, it's time for us to update his build setup. In this post I will make a DS laner build for him and this is the build that I made myself.

  1. Equipment

First, let's start with the equipment. This equipment build is focused on dealing  hybrid damage (combination between physical damage and magic damage) to the enemies as well as increasing the defense. Gilded Greaves has become a must have for DS laner as most DS laners have crowd control skills and this item will soften the effect on you thanks to its unique passive that gives you 35% resistance.

Next we have Blitz Blade. This item gives you an increase in attack speed and physical attack as well as slight increase in movement speed. Its unique passive, Chain Lightning, will cause random normal attacks to send in a lightning that will chain to the other enemies and damage them. Thanks to his second skill that will also temporarily increase his attack speed, Wiro is the only tank DS laner that benefits from any attack speed increase so far, especially from this item. He will also gain bonus damage from its unique passive too, making it a part of hybrid damage build.

The next two items are Mantle of Ra and Frost Cape. Mantle of Ra is chosen because of its unique passive, Burn. Per second, it deals a small amount of magic damage to the surrounding enemies, yet it's still enough to weaken your enemies during a fight. Frost Cape's unique passive, Elemental Power, makes every normal attack right after using a skill will deal extra damage as well as creating a "frozen pool" on the ground, slowing down the target as well as the other enemies that step on it. Whether you can put these two items in your loadout is conditional. If you are fighting warrior/assassin heroes, like Amily or Airi, Frost Cape will slow them down, preventing them from maneuvering or escaping. If you're fighting sticky heroes like Yena, Arthur, and Maloch, having Mantle of Ra will greatly help you. The rest of the build is up to your preference, but I put Fenrir's Tooth and Blade of Eternity as my final items.

       2. Arcana

This arcana setup is focused on his offensive stats. I put seven Onslaught and three Atrocity on the red slot, Guerrilla for the purple slot, and Skewer on green slot. Onslaught and Skewer will give Wiro a head start for his physical attack and armor piercing. Guerrilla will increase his attack speed and movement speed. Atrocity, coupled with Wiro's attack speed from Guerrilla and Blitz Blade, will allow him to score critical hits.

       3. Rune

As for the rune, I made the setup as a combination between offensive and defensive. For the core rune, I put Lokheim (red) with the following order: Devourer - Deadly Claw - Curse of Death. Devourer will recover a fraction of Wiro's HP and mana after each kills and assists. Deadly Claw will further increase his attack power. Curse of Death can be used as a long-range last hit rune, especially when fighting heroes like Yena and Airi, because they have lower HP than tank warriors and Wiro can easily score a 3-hit combo with his skills. It can be swapped with Desperate Duel if you are fighting tank warriors as he needs to continuously hit the enemy in this case.

Afata (green) rune is used as the secondaries with the following order: River Treader - Nature's Gift. River Treader increases his movement speed on the riverbed and recovers a small amount of HP and mana. Nature's Gift is a must have for tanks as it will give one stack worth 8 HP for every one creep and minion that die around you and can be stacked up to 100 times. This rune will allow Wiro to grow up with more HP as the game progresses.
