The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the most popular games published by Bethesda in 2011. People really enjoy this open world action-adventure game which can be played in first person or third person point of view. I want to ask you something; what is your impression and expectation towards the game? Well, there are many things that you may do not know about this game that make it different from any games. Let's check them out!

1. The Game Let the Players Make Choices

Well, most games are single-based scenario. Single-based scenario means that you are not be able to make any choices in the game; all you can do is only following that single scenario that the game developer made for the game. Interestingly Skyrim offers the player to decide in so many moments; the player can make his/her own choice and what happens next will be determined by the player’s choice. For example, in the civil war, the player can choose whether to fight for the empire or join the Stromcloak to invade the empire. Sometimes you also have to make your choice for the small stuff; for example, as the player wandering the land, the player may pass by a random man/woman which will speak rudely to you. Here, you have the choice to simply ignore the person, or intimidate him/her to show your anger which will be ended up with a fight. Also, you can choose your own career; you can be a thief, mage, warrior, archer or mastering all of those skills. All depends on your choice, you can through the game using your own personality.

2. Game with the Most Mods in The World

Yep, as you have already known, the word mod stands for modification. Mods in video games enable the player to change certain parts of the game. Skyrim modders (mod creators) have been creating so many mods from tiny tweaks to entirely new look in the game. By using mods, you can change the gameplay, animation, clothes, weapons, and anything in the game. You might ask, what is so special about this. Well, Skyrim has “unlimited” mod.

The modders have been making mods for Skyrim since 2012 until today and there is no sign that the modding interest is slowing down. You can imagine how massive the Skyrim modding is by seeing the mod page for Skyrim on nexusmod; you will see that there are mods that are uploaded every day and it has been happening since 2012 which leads to the huge number of mods for Skyrim. There were 62.681 mods the last time I checked nexusmods (25 February 2020). Yep, 62.681 mods means 62.681 changes that you can apply to the game!

3. You Can Have a Family in Skyrim

Not only providing the players an adventure full of action, Skyrim also provides the players to have their “love adventure” as well. Skyrim offers player with a new feature that other action games don’t; that is marriage. Yes, you can get married in skyrim! Marriage can be done by getting The Amulet of Mara. Then, look for a man/woman that may be interested in you. And then, you can propose him/her. After that, you can arrange your marriage in the Temple of Mara, and live happily ever after. I think this feature is very interesting. If you are a man like me, you can prove that you are a “real man” by not only being brave to live the intense life in the wild, but also showing your gentleness to your wife.

Not only to your wife, you can also show your love to your children. Skyrim enables the player to adopt children. We know that Skyrim has dangerous side, there are bandits, vampires, and many things that cause death to the people in Skyrim. They often have children, so when they die, there will be neglected children. You can travel to the holds or villages to find a child to adopt. Sometimes the adoptable children roaming around to ask for a spare of coin. Once you find them, you can tell them that you want to adopt them. But you must note this: to adopt children in Skyrim, you need to provide them shelter of course; you can do it buy buying or building a house. Having children in Skyrim is entertaining, you can play hide and seek with them, have chat with them, and they will welcome you by the time you come back to home after your journey outside. What a peaceful life.

4. It’s an endless game

Have you ever completed a game, and you suddenly do not want to play the game again because you have passed the game so it will just make you bored if you do the same thing again and again? Well, it is unlikely to happen if the game in Skyrim. Skyrim does not demand you to completely follow the scenario like other games which is the boring part. If you play Skyrim, you can choose what mission to do and when you will do the mission. It is very relaxing because you can always “delay” your mission to do something else that you enjoy; for example enjoying the view from the top of a mountain, hunting, visiting villages, or simply enjoy the view.

Even if you have completed the game or the main objectives (that is to save the world from Alduin), there are many things that you still can do; for example, doing helping people in Skyrim. Sometimes people in Skyrim need someone who is brave enough to do something that they can’t such as bringing materials such as mammoth tusk to a woman called Ysolda. There is no way to get mammoth tusk unless you have to hunt for a mammoth which is difficult to kill. Also, sometimes you meet a terrified-looked woman running in the forest that will come to you; she will tell you that she was kidnapped by a group of bandits and she just managed to escape. After that, she will tell you where the bandits kept her, and you can go to that place to eliminate all the bandits to prevent any further kidnapping. Quite heroic, isn’t it?

5. Memes that Exist Because of Skyrim

Well, probably memes have contributed for the popularity of Skyrim. We can see in many social media meme pages some memes that are originated in Skyrim. For example the “100” memes. In Skyrim, there are skills that the player can acquire during the game, and the skills have rate 1-100. So if the skill is 100, it means that player completely master such skill. For example, the player will have their sneak skill increased if the player train their sneak by doing silent thieving or killing. The more skill level you get for sneak skill, the better it will be when you sneak at the next time. So, when there is a meme that show a person have 100 sneak, it means that he/she is a master of sneak. Secondly, there are also some people who will edit some videos and add “fus ro dah” in it. Fus ro dah is a shout that the player can perform in the game which is very powerful. This shout will throw anything in front of the player, even the giants in the game will “fly” if you shout at them.

Well, I guess that's it. There are actually many interesting things that I haven't mentioned. You can check it on your own. Play your Skyrim now and start your journey!
